PRESIDENT MACRON EXPECTED IN ALGERIA, FIFTH VISIT TO AFRICA IN 2017

French President is expected to visit Algeria later this week, his fifth trip to the continent this year.

Macron visit is described as a “business and friendship visit”, but he is also expected to focus on enhancing ties between the two countries.

Reports indicate that Macros is keen to “emphasize the intensity of the bilateral relationship” and the desire to “fully open” to Algeria and keep pace with its efforts to diversify the economy.

Security talks are also expected to be on the agenda, particularly the situation in neighbouring Libya.

Algeria is the sixth African country Macron will be visiting since he took office in May.

His last visit saw him attend the European Union – African Union Summit in Abidjan, where the migrant crisis took focal attention.

The damning allegations of slavery auctions in Libya were discussed, with countries agreeing to repatriate their citizens.

CNN has earlier last month published a report showing slaves being auctioned at an unknown location.

Following that report, images emerged of migrants being tortured and held in inhumane conditions.

Various world leaders have condemned the act and have called on Libyan authorities to bring an immediate end to it and ensure justice for the affected.

After his Algeria visit, President Macros is expected to fly to Qatar before heading back to Paris.
